Bhutan luxury travel: what does a premium tour include?

Lodges, guides, private experiences, helicopters and wellness: what you actually get on a luxury trip, and what it costs.

Six Senses Luxury Accommodations

Luxury, Bhutan style

Quiet, personal and very well looked after

Luxury in Bhutan is less about marble and more about space, silence and attention. The top lodges are small, set in forests or above rice fields, with spas, wood-fired baths and views across the valleys. Amankora and Six Senses each run lodges in several valleys, so you can travel across the country with the same level of comfort. COMO has lodges in Paro and Punakha.

A premium tour adds the people and moments around the hotels: a senior guide, private access arranged with care, meals in unusual places and time to do very little.

Planning

Getting the most from a luxury trip

Mix lodges and experiences

Some guests stay with one brand throughout; others mix Amankora in one valley with COMO or Six Senses in another. Each lodge has its own character.

Book early

Luxury lodges have few rooms and fill early in April, October and festival weeks. Six months ahead is sensible.

Slow down

The best luxury trips in Bhutan are unhurried: fewer valleys, longer stays and time to enjoy the lodges.

Sample route

A 7-night luxury journey

Two nights in Paro to settle in and see the valley, two nights in Punakha among the rice fields, one night in Gangtey above the crane valley, then two final nights in Paro for Tiger’s Nest and a slow last day. Add a helicopter flight over the Himalaya, a private blessing, and a farmhouse dinner with a hot stone bath. Every transfer, permit and booking is handled for you.

Luxury travel: questions

Yes. Scenic flights and transfers can be arranged from Paro.
