Flying into Paro
Two airlines, one airport and a landing to remember
Only two airlines fly into Bhutan: Drukair, the national carrier founded in 1981, and the private Bhutan Airlines. Every international flight lands at Paro, which sits at about 2,200 metres in a narrow valley. Pilots fly a visual approach between ridges, and only specially trained captains are cleared to land there, so flights run in daylight.
Seats are limited, especially in April, October and festival weeks. When you book a tour with us, we reserve your flights at the same time and send the tickets with your visa letter.
- On a clear day, sit on the left flying in from Kathmandu or Delhi for Everest and Kanchenjunga
- Online check-in opens about 72 hours before departure
- Schedules change by season, so we check them for your dates

Questions about flights to Bhutan
Only Drukair and Bhutan Airlines fly into Bhutan. Most international flights land at Paro International Airport. Drukair also flies Gelephu to Kolkata twice a week.
Yes, you can book on the Drukair website. You still need visa clearance before you fly, so many visitors book flights through their tour operator so the dates match the visa and SDF.
Flying into Paro from Kathmandu or Delhi, sit on the left for the best chance of seeing Everest, Kanchenjunga and the Bhutan Himalaya. Window seats go quickly, so check in as soon as it opens.
Few airlines serve Paro, the fleets are small and the airport has strict operating rules. The government has said it is discussing dynamic pricing with Drukair, but no change has been announced.
Paro flights sometimes move because of cloud or wind. We keep in touch with the airline and rearrange your hotels and guide if your arrival changes.
Drukair flies Singapore to Paro three times a week with a stop in Guwahati.
