How our packages work
A starting point, not a fixed product
Most people who write to us already have a few places in mind. Tiger’s Nest, Punakha Dzong, perhaps a festival they read about. The packages on this page are the routes we run most often, and they are there to give you a feel for distances and pace.
Nothing about them is locked. We can add a night in Haa, swap a drive for a domestic flight, slow things down for parents, or move the whole trip to line up with a Tshechu. Bhutan only allows tourists to travel with a licensed guide and a set itinerary, so a well-planned route matters more here than almost anywhere else.
- Private car, driver and licensed guide on every tour
- Government-certified hotels from 3-star to Amankora and Six Senses
- One clear price with the SDF shown on its own line
Choose a tour style

Cultural tours
Dzongs, temples, farmhouses and the Tiger’s Nest hike. Our most booked trips, from 5 to 15 days.
Festival tours
Plan around a Tshechu in Paro, Thimphu, Punakha or Bumthang, with 2027 dates and good seats in the courtyard.
Trekking tours
From the overnight Bumdra camp above Tiger’s Nest to the Jomolhari trek and the Snowman route.
Luxury tours
Amankora, COMO Uma and Six Senses lodges, private guiding and optional helicopter flights.
Adventure tours
Tour of the Dragon, the Bhutan marathon, motorbike routes, rafting and birdwatching.
Photography tours
Festivals, birds, wildlife and landscapes, timed for the best light. Pre-wedding shoots too.
How many days do you need in Bhutan?
Pick a trip length
Distances are short on a map but roads wind over high passes, so a 70 km drive can take three hours. These are the lengths that work best.
| Length | Where you go | Best for | Our itinerary |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 days | Paro, Dochula pass, Punakha, Tiger's Nest | A short first visit or an add-on to India or Nepal | 5 Day Magical Bhutan |
| 7 days | Paro, Thimphu, two nights in Punakha | Most first-time visitors | 7 Day Essential Bhutan |
| 7 days | The classic route plus Haa valley over Chele La pass | Quieter roads and a valley few tourists see | 7 Days with Haa Valley |
| 10 days | Adds Trongsa, Bumthang and the Phobjikha valley | Central Bhutan and the black-necked crane valley | 10 Day Discover Bhutan |
| 11 days | Bumthang, Trongsa and a day in Haa | A slower pace with time in villages | 11 Day Cultural Tour |
| 15 days | Fly to Yonphula, then drive east to west across the country | Seeing all of Bhutan, including the far east | 15 Day East to West |
Treks and festival trips have their own lengths. See the trekking and festival pages for those.

Bhutan travel rules for 2027
What you pay the government, and what we arrange
These rules apply to every tour in Bhutan, whoever you book with. We checked them against Department of Tourism notices in October 2026.
SDF: USD 100 a night
The Sustainable Development Fee is USD 100 per adult per night until 31 August 2027. Children aged 6 to 11 pay USD 50 and under-6s pay nothing. The government has not yet said what the rate will be after that date.
Visa: USD 40, once
Most nationalities need an e-visa before they fly. It costs USD 40 per person and is usually issued within 5 working days. Indian visitors need only an entry permit. Bangladeshi and Maldivian visitors follow separate regional rules.
Indian visitors
Indian nationals pay an SDF of INR 1,200 per night and enter with a passport or voter ID. No visa is needed.
Licensed guide required
A Department of Tourism notice issued on 8 April 2026 confirms that guests must travel with a licensed guide beyond the first checkpoint, including on the drive from Paro airport. Treks need a licensed trekking guide.
Insurance is optional
Travel insurance has not been compulsory since 23 April 2024. We still recommend a policy that covers medical evacuation, especially for treks.
Passport validity
Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure date from Bhutan.
Rates can change. We confirm the current SDF and visa fee in writing before you pay anything.
Best time to visit Bhutan
What each season is like
Spring, March to May
Rhododendrons on the passes and mild days. Paro Tshechu is expected on 18 to 22 March 2027. April books out early.
Summer, June to August
It rains most afternoons, but the valleys are green and quiet. Fine for culture trips, harder for treks.
Autumn, September to November
Clear skies and the best Himalayan views. Thimphu Tshechu is expected on 10 to 12 October 2027. Peak season.
Winter, December to February
Cold nights and sunny days. Black-necked cranes in Phobjikha and the Punakha festivals in February.

Questions about Bhutan tour packages
For two people sharing, a 7-day private trip in 3-star hotels usually comes to USD 2,500 to 4,500 per person, including the SDF, visa, guide, car, hotels and meals. Luxury lodges, helicopter flights and solo travel cost more. We send an itemised quote so you can see where each dollar goes.
Five days covers Paro, Punakha and the Tiger’s Nest hike. Seven days is what most first-time visitors choose. With ten days or more you can reach Bumthang and the Phobjikha valley in central Bhutan.
Yes. Every trip we run is private, so you can add or remove days, change hotels, add a trek or a festival, or travel at a slower pace. Tell us what you want and we will rework the plan.
You do not have to buy a set package. You do need a licensed guide for any travel beyond the first checkpoint, so your guide, transport and route have to be arranged before you arrive. Most visitors find it simpler to book all of it with a licensed Bhutanese operator.
Yes. Our quotes include the Sustainable Development Fee of USD 100 per adult per night, shown on its own line. For Indian travellers we include the INR 1,200 per night rate.
For April, October and the big festivals, three to six months ahead is safest, because hotels in Paro and Thimphu fill up and flights into Paro are limited. For other months, four to six weeks is usually enough.
Yes. Many of our guests enter at Phuentsholing after flying into Bagdogra. We arrange the entry permit, a car from the border and hotels in Phuentsholing, Thimphu, Punakha and Paro.
Paro flights do sometimes move because of weather. If that happens we rearrange your hotels and guide, and help you rebook with the airline.
