Luxury Bhutan tours 2027

Luxury Bhutan tours with private guiding

Amankora, COMO Uma and Six Senses lodges, a private guide and driver throughout, and helicopter flights over the Himalaya if you want them.

Luxury, the Bhutan way

Quiet lodges and time to look around

Luxury in Bhutan is less about marble and more about space. Bhutan had 209,376 visitors in 2025, which is fewer than many single attractions elsewhere see in a month. The best lodges sit apart from towns, in pine forest above Paro, among Punakha’s rice terraces or at the edge of the Phobjikha valley.

We match lodges to your route, arrange private visits such as a blessing with a lama or a meal at a farmhouse, and keep the pace easy. If you would rather not spend five hours on mountain roads, we can book Royal Bhutan Helicopter Services between valleys.

Bhutan travel rules for 2027

What you pay the government, and what we arrange

These rules apply to every tour in Bhutan, whoever you book with. We checked them against Department of Tourism notices in October 2026.

SDF: USD 100 a night

The Sustainable Development Fee is USD 100 per adult per night until 31 August 2027. Children aged 6 to 11 pay USD 50 and under-6s pay nothing. The government has not yet said what the rate will be after that date.

Visa: USD 40, once

Most nationalities need an e-visa before they fly. It costs USD 40 per person and is usually issued within 5 working days. Indian visitors need only an entry permit. Bangladeshi and Maldivian visitors follow separate regional rules.

Indian visitors

Indian nationals pay an SDF of INR 1,200 per night and enter with a passport or voter ID. No visa is needed.

Licensed guide required

A Department of Tourism notice issued on 8 April 2026 confirms that guests must travel with a licensed guide beyond the first checkpoint, including on the drive from Paro airport. Treks need a licensed trekking guide.

Insurance is optional

Travel insurance has not been compulsory since 23 April 2024. We still recommend a policy that covers medical evacuation, especially for treks.

Passport validity

Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure date from Bhutan.

Rates can change. We confirm the current SDF and visa fee in writing before you pay anything.

Luxury Bhutan tour questions

Luxury lodges in Bhutan are priced per night on top of the SDF. At the top lodges, room rates in peak season often run above USD 1,000 per room per night before the SDF. Tell us your budget and we will show you the options inside it.

Yes. Many guests mix, for example Uma Paro at the start and Six Senses or Amankora in Punakha and Gangtey. We plan the route so the transfers are short.

If you have limited time or prefer not to spend long days on mountain roads, yes. Paro to Punakha is about 50 minutes by helicopter against four to five hours by road. Flights depend on weather, so we always keep a road plan ready.

Most luxury lodges in Bhutan quote full board or include meals in the room rate. We list exactly what each lodge includes in your quote.
