The easiest Bhutan trip in South-East Asia

Singapore was the third biggest source of visitors outside India in 2025, and it has one of the simplest routes in. Drukair flies Singapore to Paro via Guwahati, and added a third weekly flight from April 2026 because of demand. A long weekend plus a few days of leave is enough for a first look at Bhutan.

Because the flights run on set days, we plan your trip around them. We hold seats as soon as you confirm, file your visa and pay the SDF, and you meet your guide at Paro arrivals.

Practical tips for Singapore visitors

Plugs

Singapore type G plugs fit many Bhutanese sockets. Bring a universal adapter for the D and F ones.

Money

Singapore dollars are hard to change in Bhutan. Bring US dollars or Indian rupees and a card for hotels.

Phone and data

Buy a B-Mobile or TashiCell SIM at Paro airport for a few hundred ngultrum, or set up an eSIM before you fly. Coverage is good in towns.

Pack for cold

Paro and Thimphu sit above 2,200 metres. Mornings and evenings are chilly for much of the year, so bring a warm jacket.

Food

Bhutanese food is built around chilli and cheese, so ask for it mild at first. Hotels also serve Indian, Chinese and continental dishes, and vegetarian food is easy to find.

Travelling with children

Under-6s pay no SDF and children aged 6 to 11 pay half. We plan shorter drives for families.

Before you go

Planning notes for travellers from Singapore

Your first day in Bhutan

Paro sits at about 2,200 metres, and Thimphu is a little higher. Most people feel fine, but the first afternoon is not the time for a big hike. We keep day one light: a walk around Thimphu, an early dinner and a good night’s sleep. The Tiger’s Nest hike comes near the end of the trip, when you are used to the altitude.

Flights into Paro depend on the weather, because pilots land by sight between the ridges. If your arrival moves, we move the plan with it. That is one reason we suggest a buffer night in your hub city on the way in, and not booking the tightest possible connection on the way home.

What the SDF pays for

The Sustainable Development Fee is paid to the Government of Bhutan, not to us. It funds free healthcare and education for Bhutanese citizens, forest protection and the upkeep of the dzongs and trails you will visit. It is also why sites like Punakha Dzong never feel crowded. Bhutan had 209,376 tourist arrivals in 2025, from 157 countries. Travellers from Singapore are a small part of that, which makes each visit feel personal.
